Amazon Web Services (AWS) is an on-demand cloud computing platform that provides scalable and cost-effective cloud computing solutions, which includes a mixture of infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and packaged software as a service (SaaS) offerings. With AWS, corporates can fetch several on-demand operations like compute power, database storage, content delivery, etc., more quickly and cheaply than building an actual physical server farm.

Many popular brands like ESPN, NASA, Adobe, Twitter, Netflix, Facebook, BBC, etc., use AWS services.

Listed below are 4 key Advantages of AWS.

Flexibility:
With its rich controls, hybrid architectures, and support for various popular technologies, AWS provides great flexibility to the users, allowing them to dedicate more time to their core business tasks.

Cost-Effectiveness:
AWS requires no upfront investment, long-term commitment, or minimum expense, and works on a metered pay-as-you-go basis, a complete opposite of traditional IT infrastructure.

Scalability/Elasticity:
Through AWS, you can scale the resources up or down, depending on the demand with only a few minutes’ notice.

Security:
AAWS provides comprehensive security and privacy covering all three aspects of data security, i.e. confidentiality, integrity, and availability - all powered by Amazon's several years of experience in designing, developing and maintaining large-scale IT operation centers.

Amazon offers many services for cloud applications. Explained below, in brief, are a few key services of the AWS ecosystem.

(To get a thorough understanding of various AWS services through hands-on projects and case studies, opt-in for this course)

Compute Services:
These services help users build, deploy, run, and scale virtually any application in Amazon’s reliable and secure cloud platform. Amazon EC2 and AWS Lambda form its prime components.

Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) allows users to rent virtual machines and automatically scale the compute capacity when required.

AWS Lambda is a serverless compute service that lets developers run code for virtually any type of application or backend service - all with zero administration.

Storage Services:
AWS storage service's primary advantage is disaster data recovery with high durability. They are useful for archiving data too. Amazon S3 and Amazon EBS are its chief elements.

Amazon Simple Storage Service (or Amazon S3) provides object storage for all types of objects through a web service interface.

Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) is an easy-to-use, high-performance, block-storage service designed for both throughput and transaction-intensive workloads. It is mainly used by Amazon EC2 instances.

Databases:
AWS database domain service offers cost-efficient, purpose-built, performance-optimized, secure, and scalable database instances in the cloud. Though there are 15+ purpose-built database engines, let’s define two popularly used database-types: DynamoDB and RDS.

DynamoDB is a flexible NoSQL database with instant built-in security, backup, and restore features.

RDS is a managed distributed relational database with a simplified setup, operation, and scaling capability.

Networking and Content Delivery:
AWS offers the broadest and deepest set of networking services with the highest reliability, security, and performance to ensure you can run any kind of cloud-based workload. Let’s briefly describe two popular services in it: VPC and Route 53.

VPC allows developers to deploy AWS resources, such as Amazon EC2 instances into a private virtual cloud with complete control over the cloud network environment.

Route 53 is a web service with a highly available and scalable Domain Name System (DNS) designed to provide developers and businesses with an extremely reliable and cost-effective way to route end users to Internet applications.

Security, Identity & Compliance:
These services secure workloads and cloud applications with data protection, identity & access management (IAM), infrastructure protection, threat detection & continuous monitoring, and more. Let’s briefly define IAM and AWS Key Management Services (KMS).

IAM framework helps in maintaining secure access to AWS services by providing shared access to AWS accounts.

KMS allows users to generate and manage the encryption keys for encrypting data.

Developer Tools:
Tools in AWS like CodeStar and Code Build allows a user to build, deploy, and run an application source code automatically, and to even update the server and instance on the workload.

Management Tools:
AWS tools like Cloud Watch and management-based services allow individuals to optimize costs, minimize risks, and automate all the resources running on the AWS infrastructure.

To have a great career and earn a handsome salary! You want that, right?

An AWS Enterprise Cloud Architect earns a handsome average salary of $138,051 while an AWS Senior Cloud Solutions Architect can make around $132,092/ year (PayScale). Those salaries are higher than the average salary of top 15 IT-based professionals.

Listed below are other reasons to learn AWS.

AWS is the most dominant player in the public cloud market, having 33% cloud infrastructure market share. Rivals Microsoft's Azure owns 20% while Google comes at third with 7% share. What’s more is that AWS is witnessing a great growth, with its net sales swelling by 28% year-over-year to $12.74 billion during the fourth quarter of 2020. All that means that AWS skilled professionals are going to be in great demand, with 60% of the cloud computing job postings asking for skills related to Amazon Web Services.

Demand for AWS professionals is skyrocketing but there is a clear lack of certified professionals. A primary reason behind the increased demand is the fact that organizations from small organizations to commercial enterprises are switching from traditional IT infrastructure to the cloud at a rapid pace. There are 350,000 professionals required to fill cloud job roles, while there aren’t enough people who know how to work with AWS cloud services, leading to sky-rocketing salaries for skilled and certified AWS professionals.

Access to Free AWS Tier for a year with full-access to services including Amazon RDS, Elastic load balancing, EC2, S3. That would allow you to gain sufficient hands-on practice on the AWS technology. If required, you can leverage AWS’s flexible pay-as-you-use approach to master AWS domains thoroughly (or you can just sign up for this course!).

As explained before, Amazon EC2 enables “compute” in the cloud. It provides you with complete control to configure computing resources easily, all with its simple web service interface. With EC2, you can also quickly scale capacity, both up or down, as your computing requirements change. Sign up for our course to learn how to configure, deploy, and scale AWS Elastic Compute Cloud Services (EC2).

On-premises solutions require significant up-front investment and a dedicated team of IT professionals to maintain the performance. With Amazon S3, you can overcome both these major hurdles. You can quickly improvise innovations irrespective of your business outcome while keeping your business affordable, always available, and secure. Explore S3 fundamentals, its storage classes, and S3 versioning in this top-notch course.

Amazon SNS offers several benefits:

  • Instantaneous, push-based delivery (no polling)
  • Simple APIs and easy integration with applications
  • Flexible message delivery over multiple transport protocols
  • Inexpensive, pay-as-you-go model with no up-front costs
  • Web-based AWS Management Console offers the simplicity of a point-and-click interface

Since Amazon RDS is a part of the AWS Free Tier, you would get instant access to it once you sign up for an Amazon Web Services account. To get started with it, you can either refer to the Getting Started Guide (@ Amazon RDS documentation) or take up this course that not only covers that but even teaches you to configure and deploy RDS instances.

You can use security credentials to make requests to AWS Services. While you don’t have the facility to call service APIs on behalf of the account, explicit permissions may provide you the ability to call AWS services.

Route 53 is able to circumvent any internet or network-related issues to ensure high availability, all thanks to Amazon’s globally distributed nature of DNS servers along with their reliable infrastructure. The service even comes with low query latency as route 53 is designed to automatically answer queries from the optimal location depending on network conditions. Do you want to explore Route35 features along with learning how to configure it? Opt-in for this course now!
